How to Make an Origami Christmas Star

Craft a stunning origami Christmas star in minutes! Great for ornaments, garlands, or adding sparkle to your holiday celebrations!

Have you ever wondered why stars are such a common Christmas decoration? The tradition comes from the story of the Star of Bethlehem, which is believed to have shone brightly on the night Jesus was born.

According to Christian tradition, the star guided three wise men to the newborn child so they could honor Him and present their gifts. Because of this, the star has become a symbol of hope, guidance, and the joyful celebration of Christ’s birth.

Now that you know the story behind the Christmas star, it’s time to create your own! Follow these simple steps and start folding your very own origami star for the holidays.

Step 1

Start with a lengthwise size of paper. You can use any different colors that are related to the Christmas theme or you can also use one color only.

Step 2

Fold the paper in half from right to left.

Step 3

Unfold. We just needed a crease line.

Step 4

Fold the right edge to the center crease.

Step 5

Fold the left edge to the center crease.

Step 6

Unfold the sides. We just needed a crease line.

Step 7

Fold the paper in half by moving the top edge down to meet the bottom edge.

Step 8

Unfold.

Step 9

Rotate the paper, then fold the bottom left edge to the center crease.

Step 10

Fold the bottom right edge to the center crease.

Step 11

Fold the bottom corner upward to the first crease line from the top.

Step 12

Turn the model over.

Step 13

Fold the left corner to the center.

Step 14

Fold the right corner to the center.

Step 15

Fold the left edge to the center.

Step 16

Fold the right edge to the center.

Step 17

Fold the top edge of the paper downward.

Step 18

Fold the top edge down again.

Step 19

Fold the top edge down again.

Step 20

Fold the top edge down again.

Step 21

Fold the top edge down again.

Step 22

Turn the model over.

Step 23

Do the same steps to the remaining four pieces.

Step 24

Pocket the paper inside of each piece so they will tuck in together.

Step 25

Turn the model over and it will look like the image.

Step 26

Turn it over again and tuck in the third piece.

Step 27

Tuck in the fourth piece.

Step 28

Tuck in the fifth piece.

Step 29

Turn the model over.

Step 30

Tuck both pieces inside the paper on this side as well, and voila! The Christmas star is ready to shine.
